Last Sunday, I took this photo.
Any resemblance to the author is deliberate, though pipe-smoking is ancient history.
But, fast forward until February 21st. This is just a quick post at bedtime after a drive back from the coast; a weekend that included a dress-up affair with my wife and some tree-felling with my friend Mark. Both [...]

First, a photo from our recent trip to Asheville. Fortunately, other than one brief stranding of our van in an icy parking place, it really didn’t affect us too much. And yes, we had a great time. Perhaps I’ll manage a Biltmore House post later.

Perfect [...]

And thanks to the efforts of our incubator technician below, we achieved at least a 50% success rate on the first batch. The second should be due in a week…..

So, this raising chickens from scratch thing is not exactly a well thought out thing. I collected 8-9 eggs that were laid over a 48 hour period and put them in the incubator. Then a week later I added another 8-9 from the following weekend collection. So…..I don’t really expect the chicks to pop out [...]

I started two batches of eggs in the old incubator three weeks ago. This morning we see (and hear) the first signs of new chicks on the way….

In a comment on my previous post, Alan suggested that I return to talking about microbes (rather than welding or beer-brewing). So, in an attempt to be a responsive blogger, here goes:
Turns out that the Center for Science in the Public Interest today released its “Ten Riskiest Foods List“. The list is generated based on [...]
