Trying to take care of my little piece of the planet

God Bless Michigan

I’m a middle-aged white Southern male. And in the last several decades of American history, people matching my profile are responsible for a disproportionate percentage of the really dumb, despicable and downright disgusting acts seen on my teevee, when I’m foolish enough to watch.

But tonight, as I take a brief break from a day job seemingly on crack, and from rural acreage exploding into an unmanageable tangle, I come across this reassuring news item. It seems that the most recent group of American Taliban to run afoul of the law is not in Texas. Nor Mississippi nor South Carolina. Nope. Not this time. The locked and loaded “hey y’all, watch this!” comes from so far north of the Mason Dixon line to be dang near Canada. Hail Michigan.

You’v probably read the news items about the paramilitary religious group known as the Hutaree being charged with seditious conspiracy. But a picture (or two) is worth a thousand words.

Now, let me be honest. I had a set of custom made OD fatigues when I was five years old. But this is just creepy.

Seriously creepy.

Are Secret Service contributions tax deductible?

  1. Delighted to find a new post here! I checked out the Hutaree site, too, and had the shudders for about an hour afterward! The scariest stuff is all the biblical quotes: “Jesus wanted us to be ready to defend ourselves using the sword and stay alive using equipment.” I am at such a loss to understand the psychology there, other than to note lamely that humans do love to BELONG to something larger than themselves. No, that ain’t it; doesn’t even touch the huge crazy factor. I wonder if the whole lot of them would be willing to undergo fMRI brain scans…at least they could contribute something to science, be of use. Jebus.

  2. Which one is the groom? Is this a wedding or just an occasion for which a veil is appropriate? I agree that it’s nice that they are not southern; lord knows we take enough hits from the rest of the country for our sometimes less than stellar attitudes. Do you think that kid can actually fire that gun?

  3. Creepy, yes. And really sick.

Are people so stupid? Or so afraid? Maybe it’s a self esteem thing. There are few people in life that I am so disgusted with that I would refuse even a rational discussion with — and you identified a major category.

  4. I try not to watch the news (not even The Daily Show!) so I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this, but if these people were at work in any other country we would refer to them as “insurgents.”

What really shocks me is that some people honestly think the 2nd Amendment was intended to protect this kind of behavior.

    Oh sigh!

  5. This is beyond comprehension…absolutely insane.
