No. I haven’t decided to venture into abstract art at this stage of my life. But this image portrays a reality that you may find surprising. Obtained from this interesting website, it is a more accurate map (referred to as a cartogram) of Obama’s victory last week. It represents the percentage of votes cast (rather than winner take all) and reflects the actual relative size of the states based on their populations. In addition, it is broken down by county. The map you’re more used to seeing is here:
I’m filing this under ‘Rants and Musings’ but I honestly look at it more along the lines of, ‘we’re more alike than we are different, so let’s just get down to work’.
Thanks to my friend Gregg for steering me to the site above.

Very cool. And I’m not sure exactly when I’m going to get over Blue Indiana, but I have a feeling it will be a long while from now. I will hold this memory with me for a long time to come.
I agree with Beth, it’s a cool map. It also works as an abstract painting. There may be hope for this country.
have spent a wonderful half-hour going through your blogs back to october.as you describe the day before you, i feel as if i’m there also.your photos bring me more than color, smell and taste come into play.sunrise on the beach returned me to high school and rosy-fingered dawns in greek.more importantly to the many sunrises and sunsets that have given grace to my life.thank you for standing in the rain and thanking people for coming out to vote.also for keeping your ground neutral and meeting mike honestly.when you have a chance, i highly recommend brandon friedman’s the war i always wanted. ben’s dad
Mike,
Hard to describe how much I appreciate your comment. I assume that you, like me, are on the dark side of fifty. The world is changing so quickly, but people of all ages need to understand that patriotism is so much more than partisanship.
I treasure my rural life, Today was spent outside cutting firewood and planting things that I trust will peek through the mulch in the spring.
I will check out your recommendation. Promise.
We will have that beer. Patience.
i’ve grown fond of our meetings between ben’s blog and here.walks through an intellectual garden and they are hard to find these days.i’m seeing ben for the first time, since his return, this weekend.i’m going to encourage him to review his blog and its comments and drop you a line.dark side of 50 sounds like darth vader territory.as my #4 son says, dad you’re older than dirt. i agree that being a patriot is more that being a partisan.however, i have no idea about what it means to be a patriot.i do remember that on my helmet cover in viet nam [helmet covers were individual billboards with multiple messages] i had camus’ “i would love to love my country and still love justice”. later, mike
